Zusammenfassung:	[Dt.:] Diese Tibet-Sammlung enthält historische Photographien aus Tibet, die 1900 und 1901 bzw. zwischen 1932 und 1937 entstanden. Im Auftrag Russlands reisten G. Ts. Tsybikoff [Tsybikov] und Ovshe (O. M.) Norzunoff [Norzunov] nach Tibet, denen der Zugang nicht verwehrt wurde, da sie neben der russischen auch die mongolische Staatsbürgerschaft besaßen. Ihre Photographien gehören zu den ersten, die tibetische Motive, darunter auch welche aus der Haupststadt Lhasa, zeigen. Den zweiten Teil der Sammlung bilden Aufnahmen des Photographen Harrison Forman, der sich zwischen 1932 und 1937 in Tibet aufhielt. Ein dritter Teil enthält einige wenige historischen Karten zu Tibet. - [Engl.:] This Tibet collection presents a selection of historical maps and photographs of Tibet from the holdings of the American Geographical Society (AGS) Library. The collection includes a unique set of 50 photographs of central Tibet and Lhasa taken by two Mongolian Buddhists, G. Ts. Tsybikoff and Ovshe Norzunoff, who visited Tibet in 1900 and 1901. The photographs represent the first photographic images of Potala Palace in Lhasa and other Tibetan monasteries. In addition, over 800 images of Tibet have been drawn from the extensive photographic collection of Harrison Forman. Photojournalist and explorer, Forman undertook three expeditions to remote areas of northern Tibet between 1932 and 1937. The photographic collection is supplemented by four plans of the city of Lhasa and six historical maps of Tibet selected from the map collection of the American Geographical Society Library.
