Zusammenfassung:	[Dt.:] Auf der Homepage "Manas" des Associate Professor am Historischen Institut der University of California, Vinay Lal, finden sich einführende Texte und weiterführende Verlinkungen u.a. zur religiösen Vielfalt des indischen Subkontinents. Unter der Rubrik "Buddhism" gibt der Autor einen Überblick über die Entstehungsgeschichte, verschiedenen Traditionen und Lehrmeister des Buddhismus. Der Buddhismus hatte seinen Ursprung in Nordindien, der Heimat des Begründes der Lehrtradition Siddhartha Gautama (563 v. Chr. - ca. 483 v. Chr.). Neben diesen allgemeinen Erläuterungen zum Buddhismus geht der Autor in zwei Aufsätzen der Frage nach, warum der Buddhismus gegen Ende des 1. Jahrhunderts bis ca. 1300 n. Chr. fast völlig aus Indien verschwand und erst seit dem 19. Furthermore he discusses in two papers the reasons for the disappearance of Buddhism from India, the land of its birth, as a gradual process that extended from the latter part of the 1st millennium AD until about 1200-1300 AD. The other essay deals with the revival of Buddhism in the 19th century, a reawakening with which the name of B. R. Ambedkar is indelibly linked
