047I    $a[Dt.:] Das Projekt Kids with Cameras ist aus dem mit dem Academy Award ausgezeichneten Dokumentarfilm  Born into Brothels  hervorgegangen, der das Leben der Kinder in den Bordellen Sonagachis, des größten Rotlichtviertels Kalkuttas, zum Gegenstand hat. Das Projekt möchte marginalisierten Kindern auf der ganzen Welt die Kunst der Fotografie lehren, um ihre Vorstellungskraft einzufangen und ihnen so Selbstachtung und ein neues Selbstwertgefühl zu vermitteln. Gleichzeitig soll den Kindern durch eine Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Projekten auch eine ordentliche Schulausbildung ermöglicht werden. Die Webseite beinhaltet mehrere Galerien mit den beachtlichen Fotografien der Kinder Kalkuttas. Von mehreren Assistenten des Dokumentarfilms wurde jedoch mehrfach öffentlich Kritik geäußert, dass dieses Projekt das Leben der Kinder, entgegen der Darstellung im Film, alles andere als verbessert habe. - [Engl.:] Kids with Cameras is a non-profit organization that teaches the art of photography to marginalized children in communities around the world to capture their imaginations, to empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope. Parallel to this it also tries to provide them general education beyond photography either by linking with local organizations to provide scholarships or by developing our own schools with a focus on leadership and the arts. The project emanated from the Academy Award winning documentary  Born into Brothels  which had the lives of children in the brothels of Sonagachi, the biggest red light district of Calcutta as it s central theme. The website includes several galleries of the fascinating stills made by the children of Sonagachi. Several assistants of the film however claimed publicly that the children's lives had been anything but improved. About the workshops
