It quickly became a landmark of postcolonial studies. This timely new book offers insights into the field she helped establish. Both polemical and scholarly, Postcolonial contraventions is challenging in its analysis of black Atlantic studies, colonial discourse analysis and postcolonial theory. She provides important new paradigms for understanding imperial literature, Englishness, and black transnationalism. Her concerns range from the metropolitan centre of Conrad's Heart of Darkness, to fatherhood in Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk; from the marketing of South African literature to cosmopolitanism in Chinua Achebe; from utopian discourse in Benita Parry to Frederic Jameson's theorisation of empire. Chrisman also critically engages with postcolonial intellectuals Paul Gilroy, David Lloyd, Anne McClintock, Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak and Robert Young, uncovering conservatism from unexpected quarters. The book joins a growing chorus of materialist voices within postcolonial studies, and addresses an urgent need for greater attention to the political, historical and socio-economic elements of cultural production. This book will be of interest to students, researchers and teachers of postcolonial studies, theory and literature; black diaspora and Atlantic studies; imperialism and Victorian literature of empire, and British literature of the nineteenth century. lok: 36240819 3 exp: 36240819 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.901 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435262 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 5 exp: 36240819 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.912 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055919 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 8 exp: 36240819 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.916 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435270 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 10 exp: 36240819 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.919 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435289 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 11 exp: 36240819 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.921 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055927 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 13 exp: 36240819 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.925 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055935 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 20 exp: 36240819 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.929 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435297 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 21 exp: 36240819 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.939 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055943 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 23 exp: 36240819 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.943 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435300 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 24 exp: 36240819 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.946 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055951 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 25 exp: 36240819 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.951 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435319 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 36 exp: 36240819 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.955 201C/01 $017-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212584341 208@/01 $a17-08-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 49 exp: 36240819 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:55.960 201C/01 $003-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01091923124 208@/01 $a03-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 51 exp: 36240819 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.010 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055986 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 54 exp: 36240819 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.013 201C/01 $003-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01091923132 208@/01 $a03-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 72 exp: 36240819 72 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.057 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758056001 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 74 exp: 36240819 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.060 201C/01 $009-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01276947216 208@/01 $a09-10-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 75 exp: 36240819 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.065 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $075805601X 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 107 exp: 36240819 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.068 201C/01 $003-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01091923140 208@/01 $a03-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 108 exp: 36240819 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.071 201C/01 $003-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01091923159 208@/01 $a03-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 204 exp: 36240819 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.074 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435327 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR lok: 36240819 205 exp: 36240819 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:56.080 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757435335 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35030 $XR
