Over the last decade, the apparently inescapable status of the twenty-six counties as an economic casualty has been dramatically reversed. In recent years, it has become commonplace for the Irish Republic to register formal rates of economic growth that are the envy of every other western European state. The purpose of this exciting new book is to systematically scrutinise the interpretations and prescriptions that inform the deceptively simple metaphor of the 'Celtic Tiger'. The standpoint of the book is that a more critical approach to the course of development being followed by the Republic is urgently required. The essays collected here set out to expose the fallacies that drive the fashionable rhetoris of Tigerhood. Four of these fallacies - that Ireland has cast off the chains of economic dependency, that everyone is benefiting from the economic recovery, that personal freedom and liberty are at an unprecedented level for all citizens, and that Ireland is also experiencing a period of strong cultural renaissance - are vigorously challenged. An esteemed list of contributors deal with issues such as immigration, women's issues, globalisation, and changing economic and social conditions. This book will be essential reading for all students of modern Ireland. lok: 36240889 3 exp: 36240889 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.070 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $075744086X 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 5 exp: 36240889 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.081 201C/01 $004-03-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01184538530 208@/01 $a04-03-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 8 exp: 36240889 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.083 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440878 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 10 exp: 36240889 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.088 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440886 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 11 exp: 36240889 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.094 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $075805565X 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 13 exp: 36240889 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.098 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055668 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 21 exp: 36240889 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.101 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055676 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 23 exp: 36240889 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.106 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440908 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 24 exp: 36240889 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.109 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055684 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 25 exp: 36240889 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.111 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440916 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 36 exp: 36240889 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.116 201C/01 $004-03-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01185105484 208@/01 $a04-03-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 51 exp: 36240889 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.192 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055714 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 74 exp: 36240889 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.238 201C/01 $009-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01276947186 208@/01 $a09-10-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 75 exp: 36240889 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.242 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0758055730 208@/01 $a06-08-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 107 exp: 36240889 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.254 201C/01 $003-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01091923728 208@/01 $a03-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 204 exp: 36240889 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.266 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440924 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR lok: 36240889 205 exp: 36240889 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-06-25 $t02:15:36.268 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0757440932 208@/01 $a24-07-15 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/35014 $XR
