Combining political-economic analysis with ethnography, the book examines the responses of Cuba and Mexico to China’s growing global influence. Despite opposite economic policy orientations, neither Latin American country has successfully adapted to new conditions of cooperation and competition with China. Furthermore, Cuba and Mexico both struggle with uncertain relationships to the Chinese diaspora communities within their borders. TRUST AND DIASPORA draws on fieldwork in all three countries, providing a rich account of personal experiences at the intersection of global and local affairs. In the process, author Adrian H. Hearn advocates a paradigm for international relations and economic development predicated on the idea of trust. Hearn’s study theorizes trust as an alternative to existing models of exchange, including those based on social capital in the West and traditional Confucian values in China. The book argues convincingly for trust as a foundation for fruitful change in a globalized Cuba and Mexico and as a key to new balances of state, private, and civic power necessitated by the rise of China.This title was made Open Access by libraries from around the world through Knowledge Unlatched. lok: 38096834 3 101B $025-10-16 $t10:56:48.000 101C $029-07-16 101U $0utf8 144Z/20 $ap16okt 145S/01 $a006 145S/02 $a007 145S/03 $a039 exp: 38096834 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-02-22 $t10:35:36.000 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497793 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH exp: 38096834 3 2 #EPN 201B/02 $023-10-24 $t11:46:02.000 201C/02 $007-02-22 201U/02 $0utf8 203@/02 $01181813700 208@/02 $a07-02-22 $boAa 209A/02 $a/ $f900 $x00 209B/02 $a502c $x05 209B/02 $a599.OAPEN $x06 209G/02 $aAnteilig finanziert von der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main $x01 209S/02 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH 220C/02 $aKnowledge Unlatched Round 2 - Package Duke University Press 247C/02 $8601900-6 <30/900>Frankfurt, Universität Frankfurt, Elektronische Ressourcen $9210502010 lok: 38096834 5 exp: 38096834 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.841 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0779005007 208@/01 $a29-07-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 8 exp: 38096834 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.846 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497807 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 10 exp: 38096834 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.854 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497815 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 11 exp: 38096834 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.859 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0779005015 208@/01 $a29-07-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 20 exp: 38096834 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.864 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497823 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 21 exp: 38096834 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.870 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0779005023 208@/01 $a29-07-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 23 exp: 38096834 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.875 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497831 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 24 exp: 38096834 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.880 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0779005031 208@/01 $a29-07-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 25 exp: 38096834 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.885 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $077449784X 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 36 exp: 38096834 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.934 201C/01 $013-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01176698486 208@/01 $a13-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 49 exp: 38096834 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.891 201C/01 $024-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01102291587 208@/01 $a24-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 54 exp: 38096834 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.902 201C/01 $024-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01102291595 208@/01 $a24-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 107 exp: 38096834 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.913 201C/01 $024-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01102291609 208@/01 $a24-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 108 exp: 38096834 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.918 201C/01 $024-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01102291617 208@/01 $a24-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 204 exp: 38096834 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.924 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497858 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH lok: 38096834 205 exp: 38096834 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-01-22 $t22:54:37.929 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0774497866 208@/01 $a31-05-16 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38301 $XH
