Archaeological finds have shown that the coastal settlements of Tejakula District enjoyed trading relations with India as long as 2000 years ago or more. Royal decrees dating from the 10th to the 12th century, inscribed on copper tablets and still preserved in the local villages as part of their religious heritage, bear witness to the fact that, over a period of over 1000 years, these played a major role as harbour and trading centres in the transmaritime trade between India and (probably) the Spice Islands. At the same time the inscriptions attest to the complexity in those days of Balinese society, with a hierarchical social organisation headed by a king who resided in the interior – precisely where, nobody knows. The interior was connected to the prosperous coastal settlements through a network of trade and ritual. The questions that faced the German-Balinese research team were first: Was there anything left over of this evidently glorious past? And second: Would our professional anthropological and archaeological research work be able to throw any more light on the vibrant past of these villages? This book is an attempt to answer both these and further questions on Bali’s coastal settlements, their history and culture. lok: 40031394 3 exp: 40031394 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.543 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665543 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 5 exp: 40031394 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.557 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01001887980 208@/01 $a24-06-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 8 exp: 40031394 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.560 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665551 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 10 exp: 40031394 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.563 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $080266556X 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 11 exp: 40031394 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.565 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01001887999 208@/01 $a24-06-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 13 exp: 40031394 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $001-07-25 $t01:23:03.196 201C/01 $030-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01310503370 208@/01 $a30-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 20 exp: 40031394 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.568 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665578 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 21 exp: 40031394 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.580 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01001600770 208@/01 $a23-06-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 23 exp: 40031394 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.582 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665586 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 24 exp: 40031394 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $001-07-25 $t01:23:03.202 201C/01 $030-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01310503389 208@/01 $a30-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 25 exp: 40031394 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.585 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665594 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 36 exp: 40031394 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.598 201C/01 $030-09-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01214966314 208@/01 $a30-09-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 49 exp: 40031394 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.601 201C/01 $008-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110516604X 208@/01 $a08-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 54 exp: 40031394 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.603 201C/01 $008-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01105166058 208@/01 $a08-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 69 exp: 40031394 69 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.606 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01001888030 208@/01 $a24-06-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 71 exp: 40031394 71 1 #EPN 201B/01 $001-07-25 $t01:23:03.209 201C/01 $030-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01310503397 208@/01 $a30-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 75 exp: 40031394 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $001-07-25 $t01:23:03.212 201C/01 $030-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01310503400 208@/01 $a30-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 76 exp: 40031394 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.609 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01001888049 208@/01 $a24-06-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 107 exp: 40031394 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.611 201C/01 $008-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01105166066 208@/01 $a08-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 108 exp: 40031394 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.618 201C/01 $008-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01105166074 208@/01 $a08-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 204 exp: 40031394 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.620 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665608 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR lok: 40031394 205 exp: 40031394 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t02:15:59.623 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0802665616 208@/01 $a11-03-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/32548 $XR
