As these essays show, Jewish humor has served many functions as a form of 'insider' speech. It has been used to ridicule; to unite people in the face of their enemies; to challenge authority; to deride politics and politicians; in America, to ridicule conspicuous consumption; in Israel, to contrast expectations of political normalcy and bitter reality. However, much of contemporary Jewish humor is designed not only or even primarily as insider speech. Rather, it rewards all those who get the punch line. This book moves beyond general theorizing about the nature of Jewish humor by serving a smorgasbord of finely grained, historically situated, and contextualized interdisciplinary studies of humor and its consumption in Jewish life in the modern world 044K $RAudiovisuelles Material $#Cinematography $#Motion pictures $#Cinéma $#Películas cinematográficas $#Cine $#films $#Motion Pictures $#Film $#Film $#Kino Film $#Filmaufnahme $74017102-4 $8Film [Tsz] $9085039985 044K $RHumor $RWitz $RJuden $REthnische Identität $#Jüdischer Humor $71044390654 $8Jüdischer Witz [Ts1] $9333900308 044K $RBuch $RSchriftsteller $#Literature $#Littérature $#Letteratura $#Literatura $#literature $#Literature $#Literatur $#Literatur $#Belletristik $#Dichtung Literatur $#Schöne Literatur $#Sprachkunst $#Wortkunst $74035964-5 $8Literatur [Tsz] $9085097128 044K $RTheaterwissenschaft $#Theater $#Théâtre $#Theaters $#Théâtres $#Theaterleben $#Theaterkultur $74059702-7 $8Theater [Ts1] $908516612X 045A $aBM150-449 045B $a296.09 045R $aGeschichte 1900 - 2013 045Z $8AP 78867 [Tkv] $9407339582 045Z $8AP 59767 [Tkv] $9407333649 lok: 40267052 3 101B $019-04-21 $t12:04:23.000 101C $028-04-17 101U $0utf8 144Z/20 $aj17mai 145S/01 $a770 145S/02 $a931 145Z/01 $a900 Nia 0010 145Z/02 $a900 Nih 1200 exp: 40267052 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $028-04-17 $t12:06:37.000 201C/01 $028-04-17 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0805770658 208@/01 $a28-04-17 $bzAa 209A/01 $a90.832.77 $du $f000 $h90 832 77 $x00 209G/01 $a90832778 $x00 247C/01 $8601000-3 <30>Frankfurt, Universitätsbibliothek J.
