While they have stayed true to the aim of advancing women's status, their work has been buffeted by national political upheavals and changing global and regional directions in development policy-making. This book documents how women activists have understood and responded to these challenges. It is the first book to write women into Fiji's postcolonial history, providing a detailed historical account of that country's gender politics across four tumultuous decades. It is also the first to examine the 'situated' nature of gender advocacy in the Pacific Islands more broadly. It does this by analysing trends in activity, from women's radical and provocative activism of the 1960s to a more self-evaluative and reflexive mood of engagement in later decades, showing how interplaying global and local factors can shape women's understandings of gender justice and their pursuit of that goal. lok: 41649076 3 exp: 41649076 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.779 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330864 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 5 exp: 41649076 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-01-18 $t23:13:26.947 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01015201229 208@/01 $a11-01-18 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 8 exp: 41649076 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.783 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330872 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 10 exp: 41649076 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.787 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330880 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 11 exp: 41649076 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-01-18 $t23:13:26.950 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01015201237 208@/01 $a11-01-18 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 20 exp: 41649076 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.791 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330899 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 21 exp: 41649076 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.795 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330902 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 23 exp: 41649076 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.799 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330910 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 24 exp: 41649076 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-01-18 $t23:13:26.953 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01015201245 208@/01 $a11-01-18 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 25 exp: 41649076 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.803 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330929 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 36 exp: 41649076 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-22 $t02:04:46.145 201C/01 $005-11-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01218020695 208@/01 $a05-11-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 49 exp: 41649076 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $022-05-20 $t16:50:49.071 201C/01 $022-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01107611040 208@/01 $a22-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 54 exp: 41649076 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $022-05-20 $t16:50:49.075 201C/01 $022-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01107611059 208@/01 $a22-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 69 exp: 41649076 69 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-01-18 $t23:13:26.965 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01015201288 208@/01 $a11-01-18 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 76 exp: 41649076 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-01-18 $t23:13:26.968 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01015201296 208@/01 $a11-01-18 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 107 exp: 41649076 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $022-05-20 $t16:50:49.078 201C/01 $022-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01107611067 208@/01 $a22-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 108 exp: 41649076 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $022-05-20 $t16:50:49.082 201C/01 $022-05-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01107611075 208@/01 $a22-05-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 204 exp: 41649076 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.807 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330937 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH lok: 41649076 205 exp: 41649076 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-09-17 $t00:04:15.811 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01007330945 208@/01 $a12-09-17 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctt24hbtd $XH
