Diese Initiative, die durch die gemeinsame Arbeit verschiedener Abteilungen des Museums ermöglicht wurde, ist ein offenes Repositorium, das nach und nach mit neuen Dokumenten angereichert wird. Rethinking Guernica ist als ein Archiv von Archiven gedacht, das verschiedene öffentliche und private Archive von Institutionen sowie spanischen und internationalen Institutionen umfasst und eine Annäherung an die Geschichte des Wandgemäldes verfolgt. Die Materialien sind als eine nicht-hierarchisch organisiert. Jedes Dokument wurde mit einer Reihe von Etiketten versehen - chronologisch, geografisch oder kontextuell, in Bezug auf Ausstellungen, Autoren oder andere Aspekte. Die neueste Technologie, die bei der Erforschung, Analyse und Erhaltung von Kunstwerken zum Einsatz kommt, ermöglicht es dieser Studie, die große Anzahl von Bildern, die auf dem Gemälde aufgenommen wurden - die Bildoberfläche, die Rückseite, den Keilrahmen - mit Hilfe eines Robotersystems mit verschiedenen Sensoren zusammenzufassen und zu verwalten. Die Vorder- und Rückseite des Gemäldes wurden mit verschiedenen Lichtfrequenzen (sichtbares Licht, ultraviolettes Licht, Infrarotlicht, Röntgenaufnahmen) gescannt, die zusammen mit dem Werkzeug für die 3D-Rekonstruktion ein genaues Bild vom Zustand des Gemäldes ergeben. Die Interpretation dieser Gigapixel-Bilder gibt nicht nur Aufschluss über den Erhaltungszustand des Gemäldes, sondern ermöglicht auch einen tieferen Zugang zu Picassos Arbeitsprozess und Technik. - [Engl.:] Repensar Guernica/ Rethinking Guernica stems from a research project which compiles and presents materials related to the painting Pablo Picasso produced for the Spanish Pavilion at the Paris World’s Fair of 1937 and which is currently conserved in the Museo Reina Sofía. This initiative, made possible through the joint work of different departments in the Museo, is an open tool of knowledge, progressively enriched with new documents. Rethinking Guernica is envisaged as an archive of archives, comprising different public and private archives from institutions and Spanish and international agencies and tracing an approach to the history of the mural. The materials are organised as a non-hierarchical constellation of narratives contained in different documents, each document has been allocated a series of labels – chronological, geographical or contextual, in reference to exhibitions, authors, or other aspects. The latest technology applied to the knowledge, analysis and conservation of art heritage enables this study to group together and manage the vast number of images taken on the painting – the pictorial surface, the back, the stretcher — through a robotic system with different sensors. The front and back of the picture have been scanned using different light frequencies (visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared light, x-ray imaging) which, along with the tool for 3D recreation, have produced an accurate picture of the painting’s condition.
