It represents diplomatic service in the early modern age, mainly from the anthropological perspective as the social practice of the nobles .... It does not provide a classic view of the history of international relations ... from the perspective of the sovereigns, since those who were active in the period in question mostly did not go abroad individually ... ; they were represented by their servants who behaved as if their master himself had come personally. Diplomats therefore often became real creators of the foreign policy of their individual state."--Summary
