This book is devoted in its first part to the spread of the Reformation in the Church of Southeastern Europe from the Adriatic, Venice and Istria in the west to the South Slavic region from Croatia and Slovenia to the Kingdom of Hungary in the Danube Region and Transylvania in the East. The simultaneous advance of the Turkish Ottoman Empire in this area until the siege of Vienna in 1529 and the constant Turkish wars are highlighted in their impact on the Reich, the Church, and the Reformation. The second main part, "History of the World and the History of Salvation," looks at Reformation in its connection with contemporary political events, especially the Turkish invasion, Luther's and the Reformers' salvation-historical interpretation, especially after the Turkish conquest of Constantinople in 1453 under the influence of Byzantine historiography the humanism of the Renaissance. An additional chapter gives an impression of the presentation of the "Turkish question" in the picture journalism of the Reformation period. The epilogue is an outlook on the emergence of the Enlightenment, triggered by the overthrow of the ancient world view by Copernicus in 1543, as it unfolded in British physico-theology, which eventually led to the demythologization of Luther's eschatological salvation-historical interpretation of the Turks.
