Following an emotional and at times hostile election contest, the Georgian parliamentary elections on 1 October led to a change of government, which the country is hailing as proof of its democratic maturity. President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement party, which had been in power for the last nine years and held a two-thirds majority in the last parliament, suffered a clear defeat against a coalition of six opposition parties, none of whom had been represented in the previous parliament. Saakashvili will remain in office until 2013. What course will the new coalition government under Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili now set in domestic and foreign policy? Will the incumbent president, who is endowed with a wide range of powers, and the new government be able to work together in the run-up to the 2013 presidential elections or will they become entrenched in bitter rivalry lok: 44952682 3 exp: 44952682 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.821 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215095 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 5 exp: 44952682 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.828 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215109 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 8 exp: 44952682 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.835 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215117 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 10 exp: 44952682 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.842 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215125 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 11 exp: 44952682 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.849 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215133 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 20 exp: 44952682 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.856 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215141 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 21 exp: 44952682 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.862 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114321515X 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 23 exp: 44952682 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.868 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215168 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 24 exp: 44952682 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.875 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215176 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 25 exp: 44952682 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.882 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215184 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 36 exp: 44952682 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $014-10-22 $t23:54:59.641 201C/01 $014-10-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01216021333 208@/01 $a14-10-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 49 exp: 44952682 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.888 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215192 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 54 exp: 44952682 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.901 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215214 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 108 exp: 44952682 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.915 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215230 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 204 exp: 44952682 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.921 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215249 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH lok: 44952682 205 exp: 44952682 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:54:52.927 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143215257 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/39963 $XH
