The aim of this paper is to analyze the strategy of accumulation by dispossession in the frontier areas as a precondition and persistent element of Myanmar's transition. Through this particular regime of dispossession - described as frontier capitalism - the periphery is turned into a supplier of resource revenues to fuel economic growth at the center. The paper takes up the case study of the Mwetaung (Gullu Mual) nickel mine on the border to Chin State and the "politics of dispossession" around this project. It analyzes the strategies, motives, and objectives of a broad ad-hoc coalition that emerged in 2013 to defend their access to land against forms of legal dispossession by the state. In this case, the attempted dispossession has been successfully challenged, by making use of new opportunities for political participation lok: 45157745 3 exp: 45157745 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.334 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122573 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 5 exp: 45157745 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.341 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122581 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 8 exp: 45157745 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.352 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114212259X 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 10 exp: 45157745 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.358 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122603 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 11 exp: 45157745 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.365 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122611 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 20 exp: 45157745 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.372 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114212262X 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 21 exp: 45157745 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.380 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122638 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 23 exp: 45157745 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.386 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122646 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 24 exp: 45157745 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.393 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122654 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 25 exp: 45157745 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.401 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122662 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 36 exp: 45157745 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-25 $t02:09:25.628 201C/01 $029-05-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01304988759 208@/01 $a29-05-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 49 exp: 45157745 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.408 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122670 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 54 exp: 45157745 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.422 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122697 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 108 exp: 45157745 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.437 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122719 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 204 exp: 45157745 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.443 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122727 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH lok: 45157745 205 exp: 45157745 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-02-21 $t23:10:28.451 201C/01 $018-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01142122735 208@/01 $a18-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/62817 $XH
