The current crisis constitutes a juncture in EU development, calling for a reassessment of the established views on Europe’s experiment. Europeanization emerges as a critical field for testing integration. The paper suggests a framework for the analysis of Europeanization which rests on two approaches: (a) the evolution of mixed and diffuse reciprocity (‘beyond tit-for-tat’) and (b) the development of precommitment and selfimposed constraints (‘Ulysses and the sirens’). It is argued that, given enormous challenges for the consolidation of precommitmnent due to a combination of economic strains and political gaps in steering, further evolution of advanced forms of reciprocity in Europe would require new goals, enhanced normative and value contents and increased political and lok: 45174723 3 exp: 45174723 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.666 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307283 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 5 exp: 45174723 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.674 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307291 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 8 exp: 45174723 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.681 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307305 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 10 exp: 45174723 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.688 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307313 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 11 exp: 45174723 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.695 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307321 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 20 exp: 45174723 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.701 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114330733X 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 21 exp: 45174723 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.708 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307348 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 23 exp: 45174723 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.714 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307356 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 24 exp: 45174723 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.721 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307364 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 25 exp: 45174723 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.727 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307372 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 36 exp: 45174723 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $031-05-25 $t22:45:02.533 201C/01 $031-05-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305045629 208@/01 $a31-05-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 49 exp: 45174723 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.733 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307380 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 54 exp: 45174723 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.747 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307402 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 108 exp: 45174723 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.760 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307429 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 204 exp: 45174723 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.767 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307437 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH lok: 45174723 205 exp: 45174723 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:56:30.774 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143307445 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34184 $XH
