Classical approaches, such as the median voter theorem, view political actors as passively mirroring voters’ preferences. An alternative approach, that we suggested in the first part of this series of essays, assumes that how constituencies see the competences of political actors, is crucial, in the sense that it does not only reflect voters’ preferences, but it is also manipulable by the agency of political actors themselves. In this article we provide additional arguments in support of the thesis that the perception of competences is socially constructed and contextually dependent. We hypothesise that in times of well-being the logic of appropriateness prevails among both the constituencies and their political representatives, while in times of crisis constituencies resort to the logic lok: 45175125 3 exp: 45175125 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.215 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148487 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 5 exp: 45175125 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.238 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148495 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 8 exp: 45175125 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.250 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148509 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 10 exp: 45175125 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.261 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148517 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 11 exp: 45175125 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.267 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148525 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 20 exp: 45175125 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.275 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148533 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 21 exp: 45175125 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.282 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148541 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 23 exp: 45175125 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.289 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114314855X 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 24 exp: 45175125 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.298 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148568 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 25 exp: 45175125 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.305 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148576 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 36 exp: 45175125 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $031-05-25 $t00:56:21.253 201C/01 $030-05-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305040104 208@/01 $a30-05-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 49 exp: 45175125 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.315 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148584 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 54 exp: 45175125 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.329 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148606 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 108 exp: 45175125 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.343 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148622 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 204 exp: 45175125 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.350 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148630 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH lok: 45175125 205 exp: 45175125 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-02-21 $t22:53:40.357 201C/01 $023-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143148649 208@/01 $a23-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/34966 $XH
