On the one hand, in the UK, as a consequence of the 'War on Terror', a group which had been promised participation in a multicultural society has been increasingly stigmatized and branded with 'otherness'. On the other hand, in Germany, groups that had previously been 'outside' as 'foreigners' are being selectively accepted into German society, but the groups which are excluded from this process (and even more branded with 'otherness') are notably the Muslims. These different trajectories led to different reactions: embitterment, disappointment and anger in the UK, and cynicism and resignation in Germany. An overall convergence of policies toward Islam is observable not only in Germany and the UK but throughout Europe. It seems to be more related to the construction of a collective European identity than to Islam itself lok: 45176688 3 exp: 45176688 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.939 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833817 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 5 exp: 45176688 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.944 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833825 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 8 exp: 45176688 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.950 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833833 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 10 exp: 45176688 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.955 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833841 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 11 exp: 45176688 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.959 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0114483385X 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 20 exp: 45176688 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.964 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833868 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 21 exp: 45176688 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.969 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833876 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 23 exp: 45176688 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.974 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833884 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 24 exp: 45176688 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.980 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833892 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 25 exp: 45176688 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.985 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833906 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 36 exp: 45176688 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t23:31:17.352 201C/01 $003-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305103882 208@/01 $a03-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 49 exp: 45176688 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:12.990 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833914 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 54 exp: 45176688 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:13.000 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833930 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 108 exp: 45176688 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:13.010 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833957 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 204 exp: 45176688 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:13.016 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833965 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH lok: 45176688 205 exp: 45176688 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-03-21 $t22:55:13.021 201C/01 $002-03-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01144833973 208@/01 $a02-03-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/22729 $XH
