Directives must be transposed into national law, but lengthy deadlines raise normative questions about the extent to which governments of today can politically and reliably commit domestic majorities of tomorrow. The potential for discontinuity is analysed using transposition data in 15 member states and preference indicators over the last 20 years. The findings reveal that parliaments are largely excluded from this process and that the preferences of the previous and the newly elected representatives often differ considerably, particularly in countries where public support for European integration has declined in recent years lok: 45183130 3 exp: 45183130 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.752 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162744 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 5 exp: 45183130 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.760 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162752 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 8 exp: 45183130 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.766 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162760 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 10 exp: 45183130 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.771 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162779 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 11 exp: 45183130 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.776 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162787 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 20 exp: 45183130 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.781 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162795 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 21 exp: 45183130 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.786 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162809 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 23 exp: 45183130 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.791 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162817 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 24 exp: 45183130 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.795 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162825 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 25 exp: 45183130 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.800 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162833 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 36 exp: 45183130 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-06-25 $t23:30:34.930 201C/01 $003-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305103548 208@/01 $a03-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 49 exp: 45183130 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $019-06-20 $t17:04:06.591 201C/01 $019-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01113020652 208@/01 $a19-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 54 exp: 45183130 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.812 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0107016285X 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 108 exp: 45183130 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.824 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162876 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 204 exp: 45183130 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.830 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162884 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR lok: 45183130 205 exp: 45183130 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-11-19 $t22:58:15.836 201C/01 $013-11-19 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01070162892 208@/01 $a13-11-19 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://nbn-resolving.org/urn:nbn:de:0168-ssoar-229249 $XR
