And because Poland is a relatively new member of the EU, the article also develops the argument that such a reversal in the new member countries could make the European Union’s (EU) acquis irrelevant for further democratisation. Therefore, the article first explains how the failure of the economic liberalism of the neo-liberal market economy paves the way for the success of conservative political parties. It then raises the question of why political liberalism, promoted by the EU’s human rights acquis, is also a target for the opponents of the market economy. The article concludes with a discussion of current Polish politics in the aftermath of the October 2007 elections lok: 45183143 3 exp: 45183143 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.201 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985354 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 5 exp: 45183143 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.250 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985362 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 8 exp: 45183143 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.255 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985370 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 10 exp: 45183143 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.261 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985389 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 11 exp: 45183143 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.266 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985397 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 20 exp: 45183143 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.271 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985400 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 21 exp: 45183143 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.276 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985419 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 23 exp: 45183143 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.282 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985427 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 24 exp: 45183143 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.286 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985435 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 25 exp: 45183143 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.290 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985443 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 36 exp: 45183143 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-06-25 $t02:11:25.071 201C/01 $002-06-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01305068890 208@/01 $a02-06-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 49 exp: 45183143 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.295 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985451 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 54 exp: 45183143 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.305 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985478 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 108 exp: 45183143 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.315 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985494 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 204 exp: 45183143 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.321 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985508 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH lok: 45183143 205 exp: 45183143 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-02-21 $t23:00:55.326 201C/01 $025-02-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01143985516 208@/01 $a25-02-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/6548 $XH
