At first I argue that party group leaders, who mainly initiate RCVs, cannot be regarded as parliamentary principals of MEPs who use the RCV to discipline their parliamentarians. Owing to the organisational structure of the board of political groups which mainly consists of leaders of (larger) national delegations, it is impossible to clearly differentiate between the party group leader and the leaders of national delegations. As the former do not possess instruments to enforce party group discipline they should not be considered as principals of MEPs but rather as their agents. Party group leaders, I argue, will therefore use RCVs only if they anticipate cohesion to express their group's policy position. Based on this assumption I develop and test a theoretical model of RCV requ lok: 45183176 3 exp: 45183176 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.853 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547640 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 5 exp: 45183176 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.860 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547659 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 8 exp: 45183176 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.866 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547667 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 10 exp: 45183176 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.874 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547675 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 11 exp: 45183176 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.881 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547683 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 20 exp: 45183176 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.889 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547691 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 21 exp: 45183176 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.897 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547705 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 23 exp: 45183176 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.904 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547713 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 24 exp: 45183176 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.911 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547721 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 25 exp: 45183176 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.918 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0115554773X 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 36 exp: 45183176 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.925 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547748 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 49 exp: 45183176 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.932 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547756 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 54 exp: 45183176 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.946 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547772 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 108 exp: 45183176 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.961 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547799 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 204 exp: 45183176 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.967 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547802 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH lok: 45183176 205 exp: 45183176 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-21 $t22:26:15.975 201C/01 $029-05-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01155547810 208@/01 $a29-05-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://www.ssoar.info/ssoar/handle/document/11367 $XH
