Several drawn versions of the composition are know; the prime version is in the Musée Condé, Chantilly (France); a replica dated 1777 is in the BM (see 1994,0514.48). The correspondence of Leopold Mozart records that he purchased a number of impressions of the print to use as gifts on the family's tour of Europe (see Emily Anderson (ed), 'The letters of Mozart and his family', London 1938, I pp.63,83: reference from Alec Hyatt King). The absence of any publication line suggests that it may have been a private plate, commissioned by Leopold. The Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin has a framed three-dimensional version of this print, in the form of a coloured paper cut-out, decorated with a collage of textile cuttings, thought to have been made in Vienna c.1770 (inv. AK 97/222)." (BM)
