Das bedeutet, dass Individuen sich in Situationen befinden, in denen sie unterschiedlichen, oft vollkommen widersprüchlichen Handlungserwartungen religiöser, sozialer oder gemeinwohlorientierter Provenienz ausgesetzt waren. Die Beitragsautoren des Bandes untersuchen, wie Individuen und Gruppen solche Widersprüche meisterten und diskutieren methodische Herangehensweisen und Theorien zur Beschreibung und Erklärung normativen Wandels und normativer Kontinuitäten. / »Normenkonkurrenz« (behavioural norms in competition) is a concept of historical research that investigates the way individuals coped with normative conflicts and ambiguity. Such ambiguity was particularly marked from the late medieval period up to the time around 1800. Religious and social norms were overlapping with each other as well as with norms concerning the public good.
