Can a library exist without books? Can students build and manage their own learning management platforms? Can a conference be held without a program? Can Twitter replace a scholarly society? As recently as the mid-2000s, questions like these would have been unthinkable. But today serious scholars are asking whether the institutions of the academy as they have existed for decades, even centuries, aren't becoming obsolete. Every aspect of scholarly infrastructure is being questioned, and even more importantly, being hacked. Sympathetic scholars of traditionally disparate disciplines are canceling their association memberships and building their own networks on Facebook and Twitter. Journals are being compiled automatically from self-published blog posts. Newly minted Ph. D.s are forgoing the tenure track for alternative academic careers that blur the lines between research, teaching, and service. Graduate students are looking beyond the categories of the traditional CV and building expansive professional identities and popular followings through social media. Educational technologists are "punking" established technology vendors by rolling out their own open source infrastructure. Hacking the Academy will both explore and contribute to ongoing efforts to rebuild scholarly infrastructure for a new millennium. lok: 46048980 3 exp: 46048980 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.071 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0108508714X 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 5 exp: 46048980 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.572 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218314 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 8 exp: 46048980 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.090 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087158 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 10 exp: 46048980 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.102 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087166 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 11 exp: 46048980 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.576 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218322 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 13 exp: 46048980 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.578 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218330 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 20 exp: 46048980 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.122 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087174 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 21 exp: 46048980 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.130 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087182 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 23 exp: 46048980 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.138 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087190 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 24 exp: 46048980 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.581 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218349 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 25 exp: 46048980 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.154 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087204 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 36 exp: 46048980 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $002-01-23 $t23:52:08.512 201C/01 $002-01-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01223139913 208@/01 $a02-01-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 49 exp: 46048980 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.584 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218357 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 51 exp: 46048980 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.606 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218373 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 59 exp: 46048980 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.612 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0108721839X 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 72 exp: 46048980 72 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.615 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218403 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 74 exp: 46048980 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-10-24 $t02:57:44.664 201C/01 $013-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01277820309 208@/01 $a13-10-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 76 exp: 46048980 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.617 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218411 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 107 exp: 46048980 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.620 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0108721842X 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 108 exp: 46048980 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-03-20 $t22:47:59.623 201C/01 $016-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01087218438 208@/01 $a16-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 204 exp: 46048980 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.162 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087212 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH lok: 46048980 205 exp: 46048980 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:51:18.178 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085087220 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctv65swj3 $XH
