At a time when narratology challenges historiographers to differentiate their "emplotments" (White) from literary inventions, this thirteen-essay collection takes a fresh look at the production of historico-political knowledge in literature and the intricacies of reality and fiction. Written by experts who teach in Germany, Austria, Russia, and the United States, the articles provide a thorough interpretation of early modern drama (with a view to classical times and the 19th century) as an ideological platform that is as open to royal self-fashioning and soteriology as it is to travestying and subverting the means and ends of historical interpretation. The comparative analysis of metapoetic and historiosophic aspects also sheds light on drama as a transnational phenomenon, demonstrating the importance of the cultural net that links the multifaceted textual examples from France, Russia, England, Italy, and the Netherlands. lok: 46050892 3 exp: 46050892 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.193 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0108526839X 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 5 exp: 46050892 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.431 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085424960 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 8 exp: 46050892 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.205 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268403 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 10 exp: 46050892 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.217 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268411 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 11 exp: 46050892 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.441 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085424979 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 13 exp: 46050892 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.449 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085424987 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 21 exp: 46050892 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.245 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268438 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 23 exp: 46050892 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.261 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268446 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 24 exp: 46050892 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.465 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085424995 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 25 exp: 46050892 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.273 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268454 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 36 exp: 46050892 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $015-10-22 $t00:47:45.988 201C/01 $014-10-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01216047146 208@/01 $a14-10-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 51 exp: 46050892 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.497 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085425010 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 54 exp: 46050892 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.505 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085425029 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 59 exp: 46050892 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.529 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085425045 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 75 exp: 46050892 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.553 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085425061 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 107 exp: 46050892 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.561 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0108542507X 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 108 exp: 46050892 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-03-20 $t23:05:37.569 201C/01 $005-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085425088 208@/01 $a05-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 204 exp: 46050892 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.289 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268462 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH lok: 46050892 205 exp: 46050892 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-03-20 $t22:58:16.301 201C/01 $004-03-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01085268470 208@/01 $a04-03-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/j.ctvbkjx1b $XH
