How did 'Milton the Regicide', a man often regarded in his lifetime as a dangerous traitor and heretic, become 'the Sublime Milton'? the late eighteenth century saw a sudden and to date almost undocumented craze for all things Miltonic, the symptoms of which included the violation of his grave and the sale of his hair and bones as relics, the republication of all his works including his political tracts in unprecedented numbers, the appearance of the poet in the works, letters, dreams and visions of all the major British Romantic poets and even frequent reports of hauntings by his ghost. Drawing on the traditions of cultural, intellectual and bibliographic history as well as recent trends in literary scholarship on the romantic period, Joseph Crawford explores the dramatic shift in Milton's cultural status after 1790. He builds on a now significant literature on Milton's legacy to the Romantic poets, uncovering the cultural historical background against which the Romantics and their contemporaries encountered and interacted with Milton's reputation and works. lok: 46191800 3 exp: 46191800 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.207 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545231 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 5 exp: 46191800 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.213 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595546 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 6 exp: 46191800 6 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.219 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595554 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 8 exp: 46191800 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.224 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0109054524X 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 10 exp: 46191800 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.229 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545258 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 11 exp: 46191800 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.235 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595562 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 13 exp: 46191800 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.240 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595570 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 21 exp: 46191800 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.252 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545274 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 23 exp: 46191800 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.257 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545282 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 24 exp: 46191800 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.261 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595589 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 25 exp: 46191800 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.266 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545290 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 36 exp: 46191800 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.329 201C/01 $003-12-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01174002026 208@/01 $a03-12-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 51 exp: 46191800 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.276 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595600 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 54 exp: 46191800 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.281 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595619 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 69 exp: 46191800 69 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.291 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595635 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 74 exp: 46191800 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $013-10-24 $t03:40:12.078 201C/01 $013-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01277835152 208@/01 $a13-10-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 75 exp: 46191800 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.296 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595643 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 76 exp: 46191800 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.306 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595651 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 107 exp: 46191800 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.311 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0109259566X 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 108 exp: 46191800 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.315 201C/01 $004-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01092595678 208@/01 $a04-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 204 exp: 46191800 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.320 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545304 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH lok: 46191800 205 exp: 46191800 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $003-12-21 $t22:41:04.325 201C/01 $001-04-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01090545312 208@/01 $a01-04-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://doi.org/10.5040/9781849664233 $XH
