It summarizes and discusses the results of a 5-year research project carried out by the editors that aimed to apply spatial dynamical modelling to reconstruct and understand the socio-economic development of the Dutch part of the Roman frontier (limes) zone, in particular the agrarian economy and the related development of settlement patterns and transport networks in the area. The project papers are accompanied by invited chapters presenting case studies and reflections from other parts of the Roman Empire focusing on the themes of subsistence economy, demography, transport and mobility, and socio-economic networks in the Roman period. The book shows the added value of state-of-the-art computer modelling techniques and bridges computational and conventional approaches. Topics that will be of particular interest to archaeologists are the question of (forced) surplus production, the demographic and economic effects of the Roman occupation on the local population, and the structuring of transport networks and settlement patterns. For modellers, issues of sensitivity analysis and validation of modelling results are specifically addressed. This book will appeal to students and researchers working in the computational humanities and social sciences, in particular, archaeology and ancient history lok: 46475640 3 exp: 46475640 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.712 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335881 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 5 exp: 46475640 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.719 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110933589X 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 8 exp: 46475640 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.726 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335903 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 10 exp: 46475640 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.734 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335911 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 11 exp: 46475640 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.744 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110933592X 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 13 exp: 46475640 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.752 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335938 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 21 exp: 46475640 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.767 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335954 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 23 exp: 46475640 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.775 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335962 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 24 exp: 46475640 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.782 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335970 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 25 exp: 46475640 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.790 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109335989 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 36 exp: 46475640 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.886 201C/01 $012-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01176601946 208@/01 $a12-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 51 exp: 46475640 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.820 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336004 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 59 exp: 46475640 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.836 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336020 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 75 exp: 46475640 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.850 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336047 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 107 exp: 46475640 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.857 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336055 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 108 exp: 46475640 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.865 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336063 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 204 exp: 46475640 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.872 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01109336071 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH lok: 46475640 205 exp: 46475640 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-01-22 $t22:58:10.879 201C/01 $001-06-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0110933608X 208@/01 $a01-06-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/34955 $XH
