In the spring of 2014, the binders of the archive of Robert Marichal were dusted off by the ERC funded project PLATINUM (ERC-StG 2014 n°636983) in response to Tiziano Dorandi’s recollections of a series of unpublished notes on Latin texts on papyrus. Among these was an in-progress edition of the Latin rolls from Herculaneum, together with Marichal’s intuition that one of them had to be ascribed to a certain ‘Annaeus Seneca’. PLATINUM followed the unpublished intuition by Robert Marichal as one path of investigation in its own research and work. Working on the Latin P.Herc. 1067 led to confirm Marichal’s intuitions and to go beyond it: P.Herc. 1067 is the only extant direct witness to Seneca the Elder’s Historiae. Bringing a new and important chapter of Latin literature arise out of a charred papyrus is significant. The present volume is made up of two complementary sections, each of which contains seven contributions. They are in close dialogue with each other, as looking at the same literary matter from several points of view yields undeniable advantages and represents an innovative and fruitful step in Latin literary criticism. These two sections express the two different but interlinked axes along which the contributions were developed. On one side, the focus is on the starting point of the debate, namely the discovery of the papyrus roll transmitting the Historiae of Seneca the Elder and how such a discovery can be integrated with prior knowledge about this historiographical work. On the other side, there is a broader view on early-imperial Roman historiography, to which the new perspectives opened by the rediscovery of Seneca the Elder’s Historiae greatly contribute. lok: 46663966 3 exp: 46663966 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.422 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629677 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 5 exp: 46663966 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-02-22 $t18:27:23.753 201C/01 $011-02-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01182391346 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-02-22 $bl lok: 46663966 8 exp: 46663966 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.426 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629685 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 10 exp: 46663966 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.429 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629693 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 11 exp: 46663966 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.474 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292234 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 13 exp: 46663966 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.478 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292242 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 20 exp: 46663966 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.433 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629707 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 21 exp: 46663966 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.435 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629715 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 23 exp: 46663966 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.438 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629723 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 24 exp: 46663966 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.480 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292250 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 25 exp: 46663966 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.441 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629731 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 36 exp: 46663966 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.483 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292269 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 50 exp: 46663966 50 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.486 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292277 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 54 exp: 46663966 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.488 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292285 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 71 exp: 46663966 71 1 #EPN 201B/01 $016-07-20 $t12:28:33.000 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292293 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 75 exp: 46663966 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.494 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292307 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 107 exp: 46663966 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-07-20 $t22:31:34.497 201C/01 $011-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01115292315 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a11-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 204 exp: 46663966 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.443 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0111462974X 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl lok: 46663966 205 exp: 46663966 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $009-07-20 $t22:58:10.447 201C/01 $009-07-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01114629758 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110688665 $S0 208@/01 $a09-07-20 $bl
