In the following, I thus want to caution against what I think are three weak links in the authors’ argument: mistaking visibility for causation, conflating the concept of race with the reality of racism (and its many historical and geopolitical configurations), as well as throwing the baby (white supremacy) out with the bathwater (Western knowledge).I will limit my comments to two aspects. The first one is methodological and concerns the unclear unit of analysis that underlies the authors’ claim for the centrality of non-Western semiperipheries to ethnic/racial inequality. The second aspect is more substantive and targets the relationship between racism and the emergence, functioning, and reproduction of the modern/colonial world system lok: 47151956 3 exp: 47151956 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:17.977 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067110 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 5 exp: 47151956 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:17.983 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067129 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 8 exp: 47151956 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:17.988 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067137 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 10 exp: 47151956 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:17.994 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067145 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 11 exp: 47151956 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:17.999 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067153 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 20 exp: 47151956 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.004 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067161 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 21 exp: 47151956 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.010 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0112806717X 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 23 exp: 47151956 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.015 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067188 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 24 exp: 47151956 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.021 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067196 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 25 exp: 47151956 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.026 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0112806720X 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 36 exp: 47151956 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $029-05-25 $t02:29:21.000 201C/01 $029-05-25 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01304993701 208@/01 $a29-05-25 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 49 exp: 47151956 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.032 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067218 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 54 exp: 47151956 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.043 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067234 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 108 exp: 47151956 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.055 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067250 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 204 exp: 47151956 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.061 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067269 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH lok: 47151956 205 exp: 47151956 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-11-20 $t22:59:18.065 201C/01 $005-11-20 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01128067277 208@/01 $a05-11-20 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/166553 $XH
