All historians have experienced this change in one way or another, by writing on word processors, applying quantitative methods on digitalized source materials, or using internet resources and digital tools. Digital Histories showcases this emerging wave of digital history research. It presents work by historians who – on their own or through collaborations with e.g. information technology specialists – have uncovered new, empirical historical knowledge through digital and computational methods. The topics of the volume range from the medieval period to the present day, including various parts of Europe. The chapters apply an exemplary array of methods, such as digital metadata analysis, machine learning, network analysis, topic modelling, named entity recognition, collocation analysis, critical search, and text and data mining. The volume argues that digital history is entering a mature phase, digital history ‘in action’, where its focus is shifting from the building of resources towards the making of new historical knowledge. This also involves novel challenges that digital methods pose to historical research, including awareness of the pitfalls and limitations of the digital tools and the necessity of new forms of digital source criticisms. Through its combination of empirical, conceptual and contextual studies, Digital Histories is a timely and pioneering contribution taking stock of how digital research currently advances historical scholarship. lok: 48313266 3 exp: 48313266 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.560 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129798 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 5 exp: 48313266 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.566 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129801 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 8 exp: 48313266 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.572 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116312981X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 10 exp: 48313266 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.577 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129828 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 11 exp: 48313266 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.583 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129836 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 13 exp: 48313266 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.588 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129844 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 21 exp: 48313266 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.599 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129860 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 23 exp: 48313266 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.606 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129879 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 24 exp: 48313266 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.612 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129887 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 25 exp: 48313266 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.619 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129895 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 36 exp: 48313266 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.633 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129909 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 51 exp: 48313266 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.663 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129925 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 59 exp: 48313266 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.685 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129941 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 75 exp: 48313266 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.711 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129968 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 107 exp: 48313266 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.720 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129976 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 108 exp: 48313266 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.732 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129984 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 204 exp: 48313266 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.742 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163129992 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH lok: 48313266 205 exp: 48313266 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:05.755 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163130001 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/45703 $XH
