The contributions have been written by the students and colleagues of Robert Ross, reflecting his broad-ranging thematic and geographical research interests. Individual chapters cover topics such as slavery, gender and gossip, but also reflect an eye for detail in narrating about mosquitoes, semaphores and pineapples. Big themes such as race and imperialism are tackled by paying attention to language, material objects and the powerful role of individuals in shaping history. Contributions on all parts of the African continent, from Nigeria and Mali to Angola and South Africa, as well as Britain and Australia are included. This book attempts to do justice to the unique approach to African history which Robert Ross advocated, an approach which emphasises the complexity and dignity of human nature by placing it at the centre of historical writing. lok: 48313399 3 exp: 48313399 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.609 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153583 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 5 exp: 48313399 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.615 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153591 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 8 exp: 48313399 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.622 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153605 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 10 exp: 48313399 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.628 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153613 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 11 exp: 48313399 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.634 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153621 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 13 exp: 48313399 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.641 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116315363X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 21 exp: 48313399 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.654 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153656 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 23 exp: 48313399 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.660 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153664 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 24 exp: 48313399 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.667 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153672 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 25 exp: 48313399 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.673 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153680 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 36 exp: 48313399 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.679 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153699 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 51 exp: 48313399 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.691 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153710 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 59 exp: 48313399 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.704 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153737 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 75 exp: 48313399 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.717 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153753 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 107 exp: 48313399 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.724 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153761 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 108 exp: 48313399 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.731 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116315377X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 204 exp: 48313399 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.737 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153788 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH lok: 48313399 205 exp: 48313399 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:24.743 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163153796 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29611 $XH
