It also brought forth a new discipline, visual culture studies, and a hotly contested debate unfolded between art history and visual culture studies over the interpretation of visual culture, whose impact can still be felt today. In this first comparative study Susanne von Falkenhausen reveals the concepts of seeing as scholarly act that underwrite these competing approaches to visuality and society, along with the agendas of identity politics that motivate them. In close readings of key texts spanning from the early 20th century to the present the author crosses expertly between American, German, and British versions of art history, cultural studies, aesthetics, and film studies. lok: 48313472 3 exp: 48313472 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.063 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166340 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 5 exp: 48313472 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.070 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166359 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 8 exp: 48313472 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.077 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166367 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 10 exp: 48313472 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.085 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166375 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 11 exp: 48313472 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.091 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166383 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 13 exp: 48313472 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.098 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166391 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 21 exp: 48313472 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.111 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166413 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 23 exp: 48313472 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.118 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166421 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 24 exp: 48313472 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.124 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116316643X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 25 exp: 48313472 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.131 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166448 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 36 exp: 48313472 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.138 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166456 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 51 exp: 48313472 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.151 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166472 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 59 exp: 48313472 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.164 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166499 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 75 exp: 48313472 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.177 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166510 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 107 exp: 48313472 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.184 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166529 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 108 exp: 48313472 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.191 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166537 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 204 exp: 48313472 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.197 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166545 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH lok: 48313472 205 exp: 48313472 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:28:35.204 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163166553 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/47131 $XH
