The linguistic corollary of this was the rise of standard language ideology, from Finland to Spain, and from Iceland to the Habsburg Empire. Amidst these international events, the case of Dutch in the Netherlands offers a unique example. After the rise of the ideology from the 1750s onwards, the new discourse of one language–one nation was swiftly transformed into concrete top-down policies aimed at the dissemination of the newly devised standard language across the entire population of the newly established Dutch nation-state. Thus, the Dutch case offers an exciting perspective on the concomitant rise of cultural nationalism, national language planning and standard language ideology. This study offers a comprehensive yet detailed analysis of these phenomena by focussing on the ideology underpinning the new language policy, the institutionalisation of this ideology in metalinguistic discourse, the implementation of the policy in education, and the effects of the policy on actual language use. lok: 48313819 3 exp: 48313819 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.242 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225428 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 5 exp: 48313819 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.249 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225436 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 8 exp: 48313819 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.256 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225444 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 10 exp: 48313819 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.264 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225452 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 11 exp: 48313819 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.272 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225460 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 13 exp: 48313819 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.279 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225479 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 21 exp: 48313819 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.294 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225495 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 23 exp: 48313819 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.303 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225509 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 24 exp: 48313819 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.311 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225517 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 25 exp: 48313819 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.318 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225525 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 36 exp: 48313819 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.325 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225533 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 51 exp: 48313819 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.340 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116322555X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 59 exp: 48313819 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.357 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225576 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 75 exp: 48313819 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.372 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225592 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 107 exp: 48313819 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.380 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225606 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 108 exp: 48313819 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.387 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225614 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 204 exp: 48313819 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.394 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225622 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH lok: 48313819 205 exp: 48313819 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:29:30.402 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163225630 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/39443 $XH
