But was there ever a ‘stable’ moment in media history? *Inventing Cinema* proposes to approach this question through an archaeology and epistemology of media machines. The archaeology analyses them as archives of users’ gestures, as well as of modes of perception. The epistemology reconstructs the problems that the machines’ designers and users have strived to solve, and the network of concepts they have elaborated to understand these problems. Drawing on the philosophy of technology and anthropology, *Inventing Cinema* argues that networks of gestures, problems, perception and concepts are inscribed in vision machines, from the camera obscura to the stereoscope, the Cinématographe, and digital cinema. The invention of cinema is ultimately seen as an ongoing process irreducible to a single moment in history. lok: 48314766 3 exp: 48314766 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.266 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392707 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 5 exp: 48314766 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.274 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392715 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 8 exp: 48314766 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.283 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392723 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 10 exp: 48314766 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.291 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392731 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 11 exp: 48314766 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.303 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116339274X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 13 exp: 48314766 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.312 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392758 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 21 exp: 48314766 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.331 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392774 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 23 exp: 48314766 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.339 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392782 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 24 exp: 48314766 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.347 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392790 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 25 exp: 48314766 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.356 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392804 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 36 exp: 48314766 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.365 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392812 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 51 exp: 48314766 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.384 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392839 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 59 exp: 48314766 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.401 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392855 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 75 exp: 48314766 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.417 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392871 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 107 exp: 48314766 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.426 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116339288X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 108 exp: 48314766 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.436 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392898 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 204 exp: 48314766 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.444 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01163392901 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH lok: 48314766 205 exp: 48314766 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $004-08-21 $t23:32:23.452 201C/01 $004-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0116339291X 208@/01 $a04-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/49984 $XH
