These chapters are oriented to provide introductions to the sources, methods and perspectives of diverse disciplines in a way that is accessible to specialists from other fields, specialists from outside Finland, and also to non-specialist readers and students who may be more generally interested in the topic. Rather than detailed case studies, the contributors have sought to negotiate definitions of the Viking Age as a historical period in the cultural areas associated with modern-day Finland, and in areas associated with Finns, Karelians and other North Finnic linguistic-cultural groups more generally. Within the incredible diversity of data and disciplines represented here, the Viking Age tends to be distinguished by differentiating it from earlier and later periods, while the geographical space is quite fluidly defined for this era, which was long before the construction of modern nations with their fenced and guarded borders. Most significantly, the contributions lay emphasis on contextualizing the Viking Age within the complexities of defining cultural identities in the past through traces of cultural, linguistic or genetic features. The volume opens with a general introduction to the topic that is intended to provide a frame of reference for discussion, paralleled by a closing afterward. The following chapters are organized according to three thematic sections which reflect the three aspects of any discussion of the Viking Age in Finland: Time, Space, and People – because any discussion of the ‘Viking Age’ in ‘Finland’ is necessarily concerned with individuals, societies and cultures." lok: 48470196 3 exp: 48470196 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.981 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963094 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 5 exp: 48470196 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.985 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963108 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 8 exp: 48470196 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.988 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963116 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 10 exp: 48470196 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.992 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963124 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 11 exp: 48470196 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.995 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963132 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 13 exp: 48470196 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:56.999 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963140 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 21 exp: 48470196 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.007 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963167 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 23 exp: 48470196 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.011 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963175 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 24 exp: 48470196 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.014 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963183 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 25 exp: 48470196 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.019 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963191 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 36 exp: 48470196 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.022 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963205 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 51 exp: 48470196 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.030 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963221 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 59 exp: 48470196 59 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.037 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963248 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 75 exp: 48470196 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.044 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963264 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 107 exp: 48470196 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.048 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963272 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 108 exp: 48470196 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.051 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963280 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 204 exp: 48470196 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.056 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963299 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH lok: 48470196 205 exp: 48470196 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $025-08-21 $t22:44:57.060 201C/01 $025-08-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01165963302 208@/01 $a25-08-21 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttp://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/29748 $XH
