While former state socialist housing estates have been extensively researched in the field of architecture, urban and sociology studies, there is still a gap in identifying how production processes affect morphological changes during the post-socialist era. This thesis compares the processes in the production of the largest housing estates of Marzahn in GDR and Petržalka in Czechoslovakia from 1970 to 1989 through contextual analysis of primary and secondary sources, which include visual maps, diagrams from professional architecture and planning journals, government documents and textbooks, as well as academic journals, books and newspaper articles. Then it discusses how these processes inadvertently created conducive conditions affecting their development in the market economy after 1989. It then interprets the results through application of Actor-Network Theory and Historical Institutionalism, while conceptualising them through David Harvey’s dialectical utopianism theory. Harvey (2000) delineates two types of utopia, one of spatial form and one of process. The former refers to materialised ideals in physical forms whereas the latter refers to the ongoing process of spatializing. The thesis aims to show how the production of Marzahn in GDR was more path dependent on policies established in 1950s and 1960s whereas Petržalka was a product of new Czechoslovakian policies in 1970s, changing aspects of the urban planning process, a manifestation of a more emphatic technocratic thinking on a wider scale. This ultimately influences the trajectories of development after 1989, showing more effects in Petržalka lok: 48572682 23 exp: 48572682 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-12-21 $t11:30:53.000 201C/01 $010-12-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01174977000 208@/01 $a10-12-21 $bz 209A/01 $a25 Asl 436/21 REI $du $f021 $hASL 436 21 REI $x00 209G/01 $a28831366 $x00 247C/01 $8352021-3 <34/21>Kassel, UB Kassel, Standort Holländischer Platz $9102599424 lok: 48572682 24 exp: 48572682 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $027-09-21 $t08:10:54.000 201C/01 $023-09-21 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01169190502 208@/01 $a27-09-21 $bz 209A/01 $a21.05035 $du $f050 $h21 05035 $x00 209C/01 $a21.05035 T $h21 05035 T 209G/01 $a74536344 $x00 220C/01 $ahae 247C/01 $8358050-7Marburg, Bibliothek des Herder-Instituts Marburg $9102600961 lok: 48572682 78 exp: 48572682 78 1 #EPN 201B/01 $017-06-22 $t12:04:48.000 201C/01 $017-06-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01203569858 208@/01 $a17-06-22 $be 209A/01 $a/ $f000 $x00 209A/01 $ab*p $x01 209A/01 $aunverständlich, dass der 1961 eingegliederte Ort verschlagwortet wurde, obwohl es erst um die Zeit ab 1970, also nach der Eingliederung, geht $x02 220C/01 $apgar 244Z/01 $#Slowakei $#Slowakei $#Slowakische Republik $#Oberungarn $#Slovensko $#Slovenská Republika $#Slovenská SR $#SSR $#Slovakia $#Slovaquie $#Slovak Republic $#République Slovaque $#Slovenská Socialistická Republika $#Slowakische Sozialistische Republik $#Slovak Socialist Republic $#République Socialiste Slovaque $74055297-4 $8--Tg1--Slowakei $x01 $9085153834 244Z/01 $#Tschechoslowakei $#Tschechoslowakei $#Tschechische und Slowakische Föderative Republik $#République Tchéco-Slovaque $#Tchécoslovaquie $#Československá Federativní Republika $#Česká a Slovenská Federativní Republika $#Czech and Slovak Federal Republic $#ČSFR $#ČSSR $#ČSR $#RČS $#Československo $#Československá Socialistická Republika $#Československá Republika $#Tschechoslowakische Sozialistische Republik $#Tschechoslowakische Republik $#Tschechoslowakische Föderative Republik $#Republika Československá $#Czechoslovakia $#Čechoslovakische Republik $#République Tchécho-Slovaque $#Tchéchoslovaquie $#Czechoslovak Socialist Republic $#Checoeslovaquia $#Cecoslovacchia $#Čechoslovakija $#République tchécoslovaque $74078435-6 $8--Tg1--Tschechoslowakei $x02 $9085222305 244Z/01 $#Bratislava-Petrzalka $74559881-2 $8--Tg1--Bratislava-Petržalka $x03 $9089538870 247C/01 $82080>Marburg/Lahn, Herder-Institut, Forschungsbibliothek, Bibliographieportal $9336309341
