Forming the concept of the frieze both reflected on and contributed to the country’s socio-political debates in the 1930s and 1940s when it was made. The frieze is unique in that it provides rare evidence of the complex processes followed in creating a major monument. Based on unpublished documents, drawings and models, these processes are unfolded step by step, from the earliest discussions of the purpose and content of the frieze through all the stages of its design to its shipping to post-war Italy to be copied into marble and final installation in the Monument. The book examines how visual representation transforms historical memory in what it chooses to recount, and the forms in which it depicts this. It also investigates the active role the Monument played in the development of apartheid, and its place in post-apartheid heritage. lok: 48991418 3 exp: 48991418 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.491 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0117836223X 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 5 exp: 48991418 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.498 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362248 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 8 exp: 48991418 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.504 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362256 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 10 exp: 48991418 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.511 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362264 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 11 exp: 48991418 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.519 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362272 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 13 exp: 48991418 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.526 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362280 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 21 exp: 48991418 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.540 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362302 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 23 exp: 48991418 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.547 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362310 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 24 exp: 48991418 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.553 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362329 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 25 exp: 48991418 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.560 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362337 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 36 exp: 48991418 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.567 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362345 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 50 exp: 48991418 50 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.574 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362353 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 54 exp: 48991418 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.580 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362361 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 71 exp: 48991418 71 1 #EPN 201B/01 $014-02-22 $t08:44:11.000 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0117836237X 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 75 exp: 48991418 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.594 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362388 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 107 exp: 48991418 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.601 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362396 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 204 exp: 48991418 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.607 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0117836240X 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH lok: 48991418 205 exp: 48991418 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $023-01-22 $t22:12:08.614 201C/01 $023-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01178362418 208@/01 $a23-01-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/28086 $XH
