It describes and analyze the role of children as activists, agents, and decision makers in a situation of extraordinary danger and stress. The children in this book were hunted like prey and ran for their lives. They survived by fleeing into the forest and swamps of Eastern Europe and joining anti-German partisan groups. The vast majority of these children were teenagers between ages 11 and 18, although some were younger. They were, by any definition, child soldiers, and that is the reason they lived to tell their tales. The book will be of interest to general and academic audiences. There is also great interest in children and childhood across disciplines of history and the social sciences. It is likely to spark considerable debate and interest, since its argument runs counter to the generally accepted wisdom that child soldiers must first and foremost be seen as victims of their recruiters. The argument of this book is that time, place, and context play a key role in our understanding of children's involvement in war and that in some contexts children under arms must be seen as exercising an inherent right of self-defense lok: 49032155 24 exp: 49032155 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $012-05-22 $t12:33:31.000 201C/01 $014-03-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01185817867 208@/01 $a12-05-22 $bz 209A/01 $a22.02335 $du $f050 $h22 02335 $x00 209C/01 $a22.02335 K $h22 02335 K 209G/01 $a74635954 $x00 220C/01 $abar/hae 247C/01 $8358050-7Marburg, Bibliothek des Herder-Instituts Marburg $9102600961 lok: 49032155 204 exp: 49032155 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $026-04-22 $t16:31:39.000 201C/01 $031-01-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01180666054 208@/01 $a31-01-22 $bzUB 209A/01 $a000 NQ 2360 R813 J59 $du $f000 $x00 209G/01 $a64468103 $x00 245S/01 $a10200 $x01 247C/01 $8631000-x <26>Gießen, Universität Gießen, Universitätsbibliothek Gießen $9102596697
