It is not possible to eliminate or to hide violence permanently. How is it possible, then, to have peaceful coexistence between human beings? This problem was clearly perceived by the Greeks in the 6th century B.C. In many images painted on Greek pottery we meet the satyr, a figure embodying sexual violence, usually in the entourage of the god Dionysos. We follow the satyr from his first appearance in art until the moment when a new genre of comic drama, the Satyr Play, was introduced in Athens. The vase-paintings illustrate how a figure embodying violence relates to a god whose main characteristic was to establish peace and stability. In the view of the Greeks it was possible to integrate violence in society by allowing it to express itself in a playful and creative way. lok: 49263647 3 101B $006-04-22 $t06:47:47.000 101C $006-04-22 101U $0utf8 145S/01 $a004 exp: 49263647 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.228 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143283 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 5 exp: 49263647 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.232 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143291 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 6 exp: 49263647 6 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.050 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592827 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 8 exp: 49263647 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.235 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143305 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 10 exp: 49263647 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.239 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143313 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 11 exp: 49263647 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.054 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592835 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 13 exp: 49263647 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.057 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592843 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 21 exp: 49263647 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.246 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0118914333X 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 23 exp: 49263647 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.249 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143348 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 24 exp: 49263647 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.061 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592851 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 25 exp: 49263647 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.253 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143356 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 36 exp: 49263647 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.064 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0119059286X 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 50 exp: 49263647 50 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.067 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592878 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 51 exp: 49263647 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.070 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592886 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 54 exp: 49263647 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.073 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592894 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 69 exp: 49263647 69 1 #EPN 201B/01 $015-04-22 $t09:57:26.000 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592908 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 71 exp: 49263647 71 1 #EPN 201B/01 $015-04-22 $t09:57:29.000 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592916 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 75 exp: 49263647 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.084 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592924 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 107 exp: 49263647 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $010-04-22 $t22:11:10.088 201C/01 $010-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190592932 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a10-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 204 exp: 49263647 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.256 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143364 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl lok: 49263647 205 exp: 49263647 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $005-04-22 $t22:52:23.259 201C/01 $005-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01189143372 204P/01 $010.5167/uzh-151083 $S0 208@/01 $a05-04-22 $bl
