047I $aAbstract: Adopting the methodological framework of Conversation Analysis and Interactional Linguistics, this dissertation explores how a particular interactional format, French yes/no interrogatives, is adopted by citizens in participatory meetings with politicians and experts to format and accomplish actions that are not only traditionally associated with asking questions or questioning, but also actions such as criticising and blaming. Special attention is paid to the formulation of the complex turns produced by the citizens and the responses that their recipients provide to the actions carried out.
As a result, this dissertation demonstrates that even though questions are an ordinary type of action in everyday conversation, they constitute a specialised type of action within some institutional contexts, such as political meetings. In the meetings studied, they represent a powerful way for citizens not only to seek information, but also to display a political opinion and express critical positions. Question–answer sequences therefore become a window into larger issues related to transparency, entitlement and rights and obligations, as well as bring participatory democracy into being lok: 49281145 3 exp: 49281145 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.236 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270757 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 5 exp: 49281145 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.241 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270765 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 8 exp: 49281145 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.246 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270773 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 10 exp: 49281145 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.250 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270781 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 11 exp: 49281145 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.254 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0119027079X 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 20 exp: 49281145 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.259 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270803 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 21 exp: 49281145 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.264 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270811 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 23 exp: 49281145 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.268 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0119027082X 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 24 exp: 49281145 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.273 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270838 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 25 exp: 49281145 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.277 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270846 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 36 exp: 49281145 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.281 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270854 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 49 exp: 49281145 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.285 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270862 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 54 exp: 49281145 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.293 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270889 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 108 exp: 49281145 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.301 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270900 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 204 exp: 49281145 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.305 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270919 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH lok: 49281145 205 exp: 49281145 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-04-22 $t23:01:14.309 201C/01 $008-04-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01190270927 208@/01 $a08-04-22 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/222550 $XH
