This book, the first study on antisemitism in nineteenth-century Sweden, provides new insights into the debate from the specific case of a country in which religious homogeneity was the considered ideal long into the modern era.Between 1800 and 1900, approximately 150 books and pamphlets were printed in Sweden on the subject of Judaism and Jews. About one third comprised of translations mostly from German, but to a lesser extent also from French and English. Two thirds were Swedish originals, covering all genres and topics, but with a majority on religious topics: conversion, supersessionism, and accusations of deicide and bloodlust. The latter stem from the vastly popular medieval legends of Ahasverus, Pilate, and Judas which were printed in only slightly adapted forms and accompanied by medieval texts connecting these apocryphal figures to contemporary Jews, ascribing them a physical, essential, and biological coherence and continuity - a specific Jewish temporality shaped in medieval passion piety, which remained functional and intelligible in the modern period.Relying on medieval models and their combination of religious and racist imagery, nineteenth-century debates were informed by a comprehensive and mostly negative "knowledge" about Jews. lok: 49797060 3 101B $008-11-23 $t11:00:05.000 101C $030-08-22 101U $0utf8 145S/01 $a770 145Z/01 $a900 Fd 0541 145Z/02 $a900 T 254 exp: 49797060 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.740 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001125 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 5 exp: 49797060 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.743 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001133 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 6 exp: 49797060 6 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.747 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001141 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 8 exp: 49797060 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.749 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0121200115X 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 10 exp: 49797060 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.752 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001168 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 11 exp: 49797060 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.754 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001176 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 13 exp: 49797060 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.757 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001184 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 20 exp: 49797060 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.759 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001192 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 21 exp: 49797060 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.762 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001206 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 23 exp: 49797060 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.764 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001214 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 24 exp: 49797060 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.767 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001222 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 25 exp: 49797060 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.770 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001230 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 36 exp: 49797060 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.772 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001249 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 49 exp: 49797060 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.775 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001257 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 51 exp: 49797060 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.780 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001273 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 54 exp: 49797060 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.783 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001281 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 69 exp: 49797060 69 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.787 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001303 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 74 exp: 49797060 74 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-10-24 $t01:31:50.041 201C/01 $010-10-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01277190623 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a10-10-24 $bl lok: 49797060 75 exp: 49797060 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.790 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001311 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 76 exp: 49797060 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.792 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0121200132X 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 107 exp: 49797060 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.795 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001338 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 108 exp: 49797060 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.798 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001346 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 204 exp: 49797060 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.800 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001354 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl lok: 49797060 205 exp: 49797060 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $007-08-22 $t03:20:35.803 201C/01 $007-08-22 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01212001362 204P/01 $010.1515/9783110757408 $S0 208@/01 $a07-08-22 $bl
