The new genre quickly gained popularity in other countries over the course of several decades in the 17th century. Some courts adopted the Italian model, others adapted this model to national or local traditions. In France, the ballet de cour gave rise to an independent form of opera, the tragédie en musique, which was based on the structure and demands of classical drama and integrated dances and choirs into the dramaturgy.
Although opera remained closely associated with the idea of courtly representation until the 19th century, it became a genre that also addressed a broader public as early as the 17th century. This happened first in the opera houses of the wealthy commercial city of Venice, which attracted an affluent international audience, and later in free trading cities of the German Empire such as Hamburg and Leipzig. Finally, in the 19th century, a time of extensive bourgeoisification and urbanisation of culture, opera reached wide circles of bourgeois society, and those circles’ need for representation and identification increasingly affected the conception of music-theatrical works lok: 50671852 3 exp: 50671852 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.248 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672706 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 5 exp: 50671852 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.253 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672714 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 8 exp: 50671852 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.256 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672722 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 10 exp: 50671852 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.259 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672730 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 11 exp: 50671852 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.262 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672749 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 13 exp: 50671852 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.265 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672757 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 20 exp: 50671852 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.268 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672765 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 21 exp: 50671852 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.271 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672773 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 23 exp: 50671852 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.275 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672781 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 24 exp: 50671852 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.278 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0123167279X 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 25 exp: 50671852 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.280 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672803 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 51 exp: 50671852 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.282 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672811 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 58 exp: 50671852 58 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.285 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0123167282X 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 76 exp: 50671852 76 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.288 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672838 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 77 exp: 50671852 77 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.291 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672846 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 107 exp: 50671852 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.293 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672854 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 204 exp: 50671852 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.296 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672862 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH lok: 50671852 205 exp: 50671852 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $011-04-23 $t01:52:34.298 201C/01 $010-04-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01231672870 208@/01 $a10-04-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/234385 $XH
