John Marshall was an antiquities connoisseur who worked as purchasing agent for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1906–1928. The materials forming his personal archive comprise an extensive collection of photographic prints accompanied by a detailed index card catalogue, in which the art objects photographed for the antiquities trade are accurately described. The database also includes transcriptions of the correspondence between Marshall and various recipients currently held at the Sackler Library, Oxford |
