Through its choice of authors, disciplinary backgrounds are deliberately merged in order to bridge the traditional gap between archaeologists, epigraphists and philologists, who for a long time studied statues, material inscriptions and literary epigrams within the closely confined borders of their individual disciplines. Through its choice of objects, privileging works of which there are significant material remains, through its inclusion of all kinds of figural-cum-inscriptional designs, ranging from grand sculpture to reliefs and ‘decorative’ marble-objects, and through its methodological emphasis on ‘close viewing’ (and reading!) of individual objects, this volume focuses on the materiality of both sculpture and inscription. This perspective is enriched by two comparative chapters on inscribing Greek vases and Roman walls (graffiti). The intermediality of image and inscription is envisaged from various thematic angles, including the intricacies of combining image and epigram (both materially and in literary projection), the original production and reception of inscribed sculpture in its ‘long life’, the viewing and ‘reading’ of sculpture in a space of movement, the issue of (re-)naming statues, and the image and inscription in its social and gender-historical context. lok: 50883510 3 exp: 50883510 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $014-07-23 $t08:46:54.000 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237264979 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 5 exp: 50883510 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.289 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237264987 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 8 exp: 50883510 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.292 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237264995 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 10 exp: 50883510 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.294 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265002 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 11 exp: 50883510 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.296 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265010 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 13 exp: 50883510 13 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.299 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265029 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 21 exp: 50883510 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.304 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265045 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 23 exp: 50883510 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.306 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265053 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 24 exp: 50883510 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.310 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265061 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 25 exp: 50883510 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.312 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0123726507X 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 36 exp: 50883510 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.315 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265088 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 51 exp: 50883510 51 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.320 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0123726510X 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 54 exp: 50883510 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.323 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265118 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 71 exp: 50883510 71 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.325 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265126 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 75 exp: 50883510 75 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.328 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265134 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 107 exp: 50883510 107 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.330 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265142 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 204 exp: 50883510 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.333 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265150 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH lok: 50883510 205 exp: 50883510 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $018-06-23 $t22:10:47.336 201C/01 $018-06-23 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01237265169 208@/01 $a18-06-23 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/91533 $XH
