Jahrhunderts. Florence Arquin war eine Künstlerin, Pädagogin, Wissenschaftlerin und Dokumentarfotografin, die vom US-Außenministerium mit der Leitung des Kodachrome-Dia-Projekts beauftragt wurde. Unter der Leitung der US-Regierung reiste Arquin nach Brasilien, Bolivien, Peru, Ecuador und Mexiko, um das Leben, die Kunst, die Geografie, die indigenen Völker und die Stadtentwicklung fotografisch in Dias zu dokumentieren. Arquin war in den 1940er und 1950er Jahren auch mit vielen modernen mexikanischen Künstlern befreundet. Ein großer Teil der Sammlung zeigt die Künstler und ihre Werke aus dieser Zeit. Schließlich wurden über 15 000 Dias an die Florida Atlantic University verkauft, wo sie jahrzehntelang unbekannt und ungenutzt blieben. Im Rahmen dieses NEH-finanzierten Projekts wurden die Dias digitalisiert, mit den entsprechenden Metadaten versehen und eine Datenbank für die Bilder erstellt. Ein Großteil der Metadaten wurde ins Spanische und Portugiesische übersetzt, damit auch Wissenschaftler, die in diesen Sprachen arbeiten, die Datenbank nutzen können. - [Engl.:] The Florence Arquin Slide Collection is an online archive of photographs of Latin America taken in the mid-20th century. Florence Arquin was an artist, educator, scholar, and documentary photographer who was hired by the US state department to head the Kodachrome Slide Project. Under the direction of the US Government, Arquin traveled to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Mexico to take slides of life, art, geography, indigenous peoples, and urban development. Arquin was also friendly with many Modern Mexican artists in the 1940s and 1950s. A significant portion of the collection documents the artists and their works from the time period. Eventually, over 15,000 slides were sold to Florida Atlantic University, where they remained unknown and unused for decades. This NEH-Funded project has digitized the slides, attached pertinent metadata, and created a database for the images.
