In 1964 Soviet leadership and in charge media authorities created a new radiostation - 'Majak' should compete with Western stations like BBC, VOA and RFE. This circumstance provides the basis for analyzing the concrete function, concept and success of 'Majak' via three different groups of agents - members of the Soviet Party leadership, broadcasters and audience. This book contributes to analyzing Soviet cultural and media history and provides Information about scopes of agency, public spheres and practices of media appropriation. 'Majak' acts as a dispositif, embedded in an arrangement of actors, participating institutions, technical structures, discourses, programme concepts, modes of reception and perception.
