"The Chronicle of the Third Republic provides a chronological overview of eents within the territory of Czechoslovakia from May 1945 to February 1948. In brief terms, it brings the reader closer to teh political and social operations in the state, reconstituted after the Nazi occupation. Most of the records refer to the expulsion of Czech and Moravian Germans, the workings of the Extraordinary People Courts, the KSC pressure to take over power (not only in the political field but also within the security forces) and in the field of culture. Attention is also paid to the issuance of the decrees by the President of the Republic as well as other legislative processes, and incidents with units of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the theft of the then Subcarpathian Rus by the USSR, territorial disputes with Poland and last but not least, the situation in Slovakia. The book ends on February 25, 1948, when armed communists seized power in a coup and suffocated the last remnants of democracy."--Page 599.
