Ausgehend von einer Bestandsaufnahme der internationalen Kontroverse über Kontroversitätsgebote werden zwei der wichtigsten Kriterien, die zur Zuordnung und Abgrenzung von kontrovers oder nicht kontrovers zu behandelnden Themen vorgebracht wurden, auf den Prüfstand gestellt. Es wird gezeigt, dass diese Kriterien - das epistemische Kriterium und das Kriterium der politischen Authentizität - die ihnen zugeschriebenen Rechtfertigungsleistungen und Orientierungsfunktionen für Lehrer_innen und Schüler_innen nur eingeschränkt erfüllen können und daher revisions- und ergänzungsbedürftig sind. Starting from a reconstruction of the international controversy over controversial issues, two of the most important criteria that have been put forward for the classification and delimitation of controversial or non-controversial topics will be examined. It will be argued that these criteria - the epistemic criterion and the criterion of political authenticity - can fulfill the normative and epistemic functions attributed to them only to a limited extent for teachers and students and are therefore in need of revision.
