However, the implementation of a European election campaign focusing on transnational top candidates remains controversial because it is still unclear to what extent nationally formed political predispositions such as party identification can serve as heuristics for assessing a transnational election campaign. Though TV duels as miniature campaigns directly open up this antagonism, research at the European level remains limited. Drawing on data from a field study consisting of virtualised real-time-response measurement and survey data of 157 participants, we show that expressive party identification as a heuristic is considerably constrained in transnational debates’ reception, while being complemented by instrumental aspects such as candidate orientations and ideological attitudes lok: 51896057 3 exp: 51896057 3 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.816 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128677 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 5 exp: 51896057 5 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.819 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128685 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 8 exp: 51896057 8 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.824 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128693 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 10 exp: 51896057 10 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.826 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128707 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 11 exp: 51896057 11 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.828 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128715 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 20 exp: 51896057 20 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.831 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128723 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 21 exp: 51896057 21 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.834 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128731 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 23 exp: 51896057 23 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.838 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $0126512874X 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 24 exp: 51896057 24 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.840 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128758 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 25 exp: 51896057 25 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.843 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128766 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 36 exp: 51896057 36 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.846 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128774 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 49 exp: 51896057 49 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.849 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128782 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 54 exp: 51896057 54 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.855 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128804 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 108 exp: 51896057 108 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.860 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128820 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 204 exp: 51896057 204 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.864 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128839 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH lok: 51896057 205 exp: 51896057 205 1 #EPN 201B/01 $008-06-24 $t01:08:43.866 201C/01 $007-06-24 201U/01 $0utf8 203@/01 $01265128847 208@/01 $a07-06-24 $bl 209S/01 $S0 $uhttps://freidok.uni-freiburg.de/data/248209 $XH
