047I    $aThis paper compares the construction of social memory by three early 20th-century Catholic youth movements: the Association catholique de la jeunesse canadienne-française in French-speaking Canada, Quickborn in Germany, and Ateitis in Lithuania. These movements - nationalist, Catholic and young - have been examined primarily in their respective national contexts. This comparative study investigates the differences in the importance the movements gave to the construction of social memory and the extent to which these activities shaped the organisations' engagement of the public sphere. The study also shows that harnessing the past was a gendered activity. Lastly, the comparison sheds light on the variety of ways that Catholic discourse and rituals were engaged in the creation of social memory 
047I    $aCe travail effectue une comparaison de la construction de la mémoire sociale des trois mouvements de jeunesse catholique du début du 20e s. : l'Association catholique de la jeunesse canadiennefrançaise au Canada francophone, Quickborn en Allemagne et Ateitis en Lituanie. Ces mouvements - nationaliste, catholique et jeune - ont été examinés principalement dans leur contexte national respectif. Cette étude comparative examine les différences dans l'importance attribuée à la mémoire sociale par les mouvements étudiés et évalue dans quelle mesure ces activités ont influencé l'engagement de ces organisations dans le domaine publique. Cette étude montre aussi que l'exploitation du passé était une activité dépende du genre. Enfin, cette comparaison met en lumière la variété des approches par lesquelles le discours et le rituel catholique ont contribué à la création d'une mémoire sociale 
047I    $aDieser Beitrag vergleicht die Bildung des sozialen Gedächtnisses dreier katholischer Jugendbewegungen aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert: die Association catholique de la jeunesse canadienne-française im französischsprachigen Kanada, Quickborn in Deutschland und Ateitis in Litauen. Diese Bewegungen - nationalistisch, katholisch und jung - wurden zuvorderst in ihrem respektiven nationalen Kontext untersucht. Diese vergleichende Studie geht der unterschiedlichen Bedeutung zugrunde, die die Jugendbewegungen der Bildung eines sozialen Gedächtnisses zuteilten, und inwieweit diese Aktivitäten den Einsatz der Organisation für die Öffentlichkeit formten. Die Studie zeigt auch, dass das Nutzen der Vergangenheit eine geschlechterabhängige Aktivität war. Zuletzt bringt der Vergleich die Verschiedenheit der Art und Weisen ans Licht, in denen der katholische Diskurs und Rituale an der Bildung eines sozialen Gedächtnisses beteiligt waren
