047I    $aAbstract: The professor of social theory of gender relations (Sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien der Geschlechterverhältnisse) at the University of Innsbruck and head of the research platform Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Innsbruck is interviewed by Sonja Luksik about how biopower and gendered division of labor function in times of crisis. The term biopower (after Michel Foucault) explains the subtle power mechanisms of the state that aim to optimize the life of its population. According to Ludwig, biopower plays a very central role in pandemics. In the past two years, she has also noticed a „specter of sovereignty“ in state crisis management. She finds the state always constructs sovereign citizens and offers supposed safety in exceptional situations – ignoring bodies, needs, emotions and social relationships.
